A study was conducted to identify various constraints which hinder the role performances of Veterinary Assistant Surgeons (VASs) of Andhra Pradesh in India. Data were collected from 220 respondents in eleven selected districts through specially prepared schedule and subjected to analyze through Garrett’s ranking technique to draw valid inferences. The study revealed that arbitrary target fixation for artificial insemination with a mean score of 68.38 was the most important constraint followed by non separation of contagious animals with a mean score of 68.03 as the second important constraint. Insufficient policies and regulations, lack of awards and rewards, veterinary dispensaries are not well equipped and discussion on field problems getting low priority in the meetings were perceived as other crucial constraints by VASs and need to be mitigated. All these constraints are very critical and addressing them would go a long way in increasing the effectiveness of the services provided by the veterinarians. This investigation has an organizational and social significance for development of live- stock organizations not only in India, but also to other SAARC countries as well.
